Neon Lamps, called "Television Lamps"

These low-inertia lamps, which are filled with a mixture of low-pressure helium and neon gas, were placed behind the Nipkow receiver disc.

They provided a modulated light of orange color, the brigtness of which corresponds to the televsion signal.
