Mechanical Television

Kansas State Engineer

This article describes the use of a superhetrodyne receiver for television. Prior to this time, televsion receivers were tuned RF (TRF) because of the problems in getting sufficient bandwidth in the IF stages. Radio receivers were almost entirely superhetrodyne by that time because of their superior performance. Another experimenter, R. William Tanner, was also working on superhetrodynes for television, and published an article in Radio Engineering about the same time.
