Announced the summer of 1958, Predicta was made for 2 model years 1959 ( G series or models) and 1960 (H series or models).
Philco pulled out all the stops on the design of these sets, pulled the best designers out of every department, pioneered leading edge technology.
Contracted to have an early ORGANIC plastic composite designed for the Predicta’s screen cover, tenite butratye, otherwise known as tenite. Since it was organic, it more often then not degraded leaving a distinctive smell and eventual visual haze.
Used almost exclusively printed circuits at a time when most TV sets were largely handwired. It was designed in haste, so heat contributing to component failure was a huge warranty headache for Philco.
Custom crt designed to to be thinner and shrink the screen's footprint was unreliable. prone to failure. largely regarded as one of many factors that contributed to Philco never breaking even on the sales of the set (warranty claims were a runaway catastrophe for philco).
