Postwar Television

KPTV Portland

The first commercial UHF station was KPTV in Portland, Oregon. The station began broadcasting in September of 1952, using the transmitter that was used in by RCA's experimental UHF station KC2XAK in Bridgeport, Connecticut.. It had a 250-foot tower on Council Crest, more than 1,000 feet above Portland.
