Early Television Stations
WJZ New York (WABC)
This station is shown in FCC records as starting broadcasting in August, 1948. However, this 1946 magazine cover shows the call letters, along with prewar GE cameras. It is likely that the call letters refer to radio station @WJZ, which had been on the air since the 20s.
The television station was the flagship station of the ABC network and broadcast on channel 7. In 1953 it changed its call sign to WABC. After that, the WJZ sign was used by the ABC station in Baltimore, Maryland.
